Betty Jean Sorenson Petersen, 87, passed away in her home in Fielding, UT on September 15, 2017.

Betty Jean was born April 1, 1930 in East Garland, Utah to John Henry and Mary Letitia Sorenson.

She graduated from Bear River High School where she was a member of the Pep Club and played saxophone in the band. Her compassion and desire to help people led her to work as a nurse at Bear River Valley Hospital. She then served an LDS mission in Copenhagen, Denmark.

On July 20, 1956, she married Richard Noble Petersen in the Logan Temple and they made their home and ran their family farm in Fielding, Utah. There they had 6 children and were blessed to raise 3 of them. The other 3, she can now finally hold in her arms again. They also opened their home to Indian Placement Students, who they loved and cared for as their own. Together, Richard and Betty Jean volunteered at the Bishop’s Storehouse, in Brigham City, UT as an LDS Church Service Mission.

Betty Jean was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and loved the Lord, serving him in every way she could. She held numerous church callings, volunteered at the hospital as a Pink Lady and worked many years on genealogy.

Betty Jean was an example to all and a devoted Matriarch to her family. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, enjoyed crocheting, baking rolls, gardening, and bird watching from her front window.

Betty Jean is survived by her sister, Patricia (Leon) Fryer, son Matt (KayLynn) Petersen, daughter Lisa Petersen (Jen Stein), grandchildren Jeri (Jayson) Davis, Trudy (Jeff) Stanton, Braydon (Mickie) Petersen and four great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and children Chad, Brenda, Kirsten and Brad Petersen.
