Darlene Afton LishNovember 15, 1933 ~ December 22, 2017 (age 84)
Today December 22, 2017, our sweet mother Darlene Afton Richardson Lish, left this earthly life to be home for Christmas. Mom was born to goodly parents, Wallace Josiah and Afton Agnes Miller Richardson on November 15, 1933 in Brigham City, Utah. She was raised in Brigham City, where she attended grade school and high school.
She married the love of her life, J. Harry Lish on June 8, 1951 in Cache Junction, Utah. They were later sealed in the Ogden LDS Temple. He passed away on February 8, 2012.
Alongside her parents, she learned the restaurant trade with long hours, aching feet but always with a smile. Many enjoyed her cooking secrets. Sunday dinners and holidays were so very special. The word “No” was not her in vocabulary. Everything she said and did was done lovingly and without judgement.
As she raised her family, and helped with grandchildren, she spent countless hours helping with homework, filling hungry tummies with the best hotcakes ever! There were many fond memories around the kitchen table making pies, rolls, candy and whatever else we wanted to do.
Mom also loved those she worked with at Fielding, Garland, and Honeyville Elementary schools. She especially loved the children. Each person Mom met, knew she was genuine and interested in them.
Mom loved anything that had to do with handwork, cooking, sewing, and candy making. She had a special gift with her ability to make quilts. She passed this skill on to her daughters. She also enjoyed spending time outdoors and was an avid golfer. We cannot forget the memories made on the banks of the Blackfoot Reservoir with Mom and Dad. Mom’s fish fries and shrimp were legendary!
Mom was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She spent countless hours serving in different capacities in the Deweyville Ward.
She is survived by her children: J. Paul Lish, Kathy (Kim) Birch, Allen (Ilene) Lish, LuAnn (Kevin) Reese, Todd (Jill) Lish, Debra (Les) Wheatley; 25 grandchildren; and 44 great grandchildren with two more on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and daughter-in-law, Vaneice Lish.
Much heartfelt thanks and gratitude goes to Debra and Les for keeping Mom safe, loved, well-cared for, and for treating her with the utmost respect for the last 18 months. Mom was truly an Angel teaching us by example.
We love you Mom, Best Grandma Ever, till we meet again!
