Death Certificate Form
Carl LeRoy Ashby passed away peacefully on June 22, 2018 with his family by his side. He was born on December 28, 1932 and was raised on a farm in Fielding, Utah where he learned the value of hard work. He served in the Korean War, and then returned and was sealed to his sweetheart, Barbara Olsen, in the Logan LDS Temple on September 22, 1955. Carl and Barbara were blessed with 3 children, Denise (Richard), Kaylene (Lyle), and Reed (Michelle), and have since been blessed with 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He and Barbara raised their children in a home filled with the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and taught their children, by example, to serve the Lord with all their heart, might, mind, and strength.
Carl’s love for music started when he was young and it played a pivotal role throughout his life. He was never happier than when he had a baton in his hand sharing the beautiful gift of music. He taught choirs at Bear River High School for 36 years and Northridge High School for one year. He was a member of the world-renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir for 12 years where he participated in many tours, including Japan, Russia, New Zealand, Austria, Germany, France, England, Israel and the United States. He was invited to be a guest conductor for the international broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word in 1999. He also directed and adjudicated honor or festival choirs throughout the Intermountain region and received numerous educator awards and accolades. Through it all, Barbara was always his biggest fan and support. He touched many hearts and forever changed lives.
Carl served in many different capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints including Bishopric Counselor, Bishop, and High Councilor. He and Barbara served faithfully as ordinance workers and temple coordinators for the Logan LDS temple for many years.
