Darlene (Sparks) HessJanuary 9, 1945 ~ April 17, 2017 (age 72)
Darlene Sparks Hess of Tremonton, Utah returned home to her Father in Heaven on April 17, 2017 in her home that she loved, surrounded by her family that “loved her much”. She was born January 9, 1945 in Logan, Utah to Gleneth and Vella (Thompson) Sparks. She married her husband, James (Butch) Hess on April 30, 1965. The marriage was solemnized a year later in the Logan Temple.
Darlene graduated from North Cache High School where she was active in drama and choir. She loved horses and enjoyed barrel racing. She was a rodeo queen in Plymouth, Richmond, Cache Valley, Preston, and Box Elder County. She worked as a bank teller at KeyBank, a pre-school teacher, a secretary to the fire chief at Thiokol, and most recently retired from Tremonton City in September 2016 where she was the Tremonton City Recorder. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she held many callings such as Relief Society President, Young Women’s President, Nursery Leader, Sunday School Teacher, and many more callings. She was also very involved in the Cub Scouts of America program. The most important thing in her life was her family, but more importantly her 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. There was not a person that came in contact with her that didn’t learn something from her and enjoyed being around her sweet and kind spirit.
She is survived by her husband, James (Butch) Hess of Tremonton, daughter Wendy (Mike) King of Fielding, son James Bart (Kathleen) Hess of Tremonton, daughter Tanya (Robert) Stephensen of Delta, grandchildren Kolton King, Lacey (Brock) Reed, Kody King, Nicole (Josh) Cutler, Kylie (Shaun) Mortenson, Christopher (Adrianna) Cantu, Kent (Savannah) Hess, Amber Hess, Colton Stephensen, Kaybree Stephensen, Henci Jo Stephensen, and Ryler Stephensen, her special little great grandchildren Emma and Erik Reed, James Shaun Mortenson, and Daphne Cutler. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy (Dave) Conger of Tremonton and her brother Kim (Jane) Sparks of Clarkston. She had many nieces and nephews she loved and were very dear to her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents and her great niece Taylie Lynn Conger.
Thank you to her many friends and extended family for the kindness and love that they have shown her throughout her life. We’d like to give a special thank you to the staff at McKay Dee Hospital, who gave us an extra few months with our mother. We would also like to thank Legacy House of Logan, Logan Regional Medical ICU, and IHC Hospice that helped with her critical care in her last days.
