Alan Leo Godfrey, 74, of Riverside, Utah, passed away on October 20, 2025.

Alan was born to Iva Mae Shaffer and Leo Sylvin Godfrey on November 22, 1950. Raised in Clarkston, Alan moved to Garland at age 12 and graduated from Bear River High School in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army and then in the Montana-Wyoming mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

On October 24, 1975, he married his sweetheart, Brenda Bourne, in the Logan Temple. Alan’s adoration for Brenda was beyond words. Their marriage, a 50-year journey, is an example to us all of what true love and partnership is. He was immensely proud of his kids and their spouses. Alan’s legacy lives on through his six children: Barb (Anthony) Larson, Jay (Meghan) Godfrey, John Godfrey, Jess (Jennae) Godfrey, Jim (Amanda) Godfrey, and Deb (Jeison) Carrillo.

Nobody worked harder than Alan. A true craftsman, he built his own home in Riverside. He worked at the Garland Sugar Factory, in road construction, as a carpenter, and was an X-ray tech. For 40 years, he worked at Thiokol (ATK), until he retired in January of 2018. Alan called himself an “Electronics Technician”, but his grandkids called him a “Rocket Scientist”. His innovation led to multiple patents and the solution of many “unsolveable" problems. Alan could fix anything—even things that shouldn’t have been fixed, like a broken Tupperware lid that became a family relic.

In recent years, Alan was best known as “Grandpa”. His 21 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren loved teasing him and helping with projects. He taught his grandkids to use power tools, drive vehicles, work hard, be tough, crack jokes, and do good. He was the biggest fan and loudest supporter in all that they did.

Alan was quick to make others laugh. He could, and would, start a conversation with anybody. He loved meeting and talking with new people. Alan made friends everywhere he went and cherished those relationships throughout his life.

A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Alan had a testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ and His gospel. He served faithfully in many callings, with a particular fondness for Scouts. From 2018-2019, Alan and Brenda served a Farmland Reserve mission in Chico, California. In recent years, he dedicated Thursday mornings to working in the Brigham City Temple.

Alan was welcomed home by his parents (Leo and Iva), his parents-in-law (John A and Roma Bourne), his sister (Liola Anderson), and brothers-in-law, (Steve Anderson and Todd Goodey). He leaves behind a lifetime of service, ingenuity, and devotion that will endure in the hearts of his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Church’s missionary fund.
