Arva Merrell

Garland-Arva Lue Mortensen Merrell passed away March 5, 2009. She was born January 14, 1924 in Cleveland, Utah to Harry Bryan and Myrtle Larson Mortensen. She graduated from BYU with a degree in English. She served a LDS mission in the Eastern States Mission (1949-1950). Arva Lue married William O. Merrell in the Salt Lake Temple on October 30, 1952. Together they raised a family of four sons and one daughter in Garland, Utah. She taught elementary school for 21 years. Her life was devoted to service to her family and her church. She and her husband served as temple workers in the Logan Temple and together as missionaries in the Michigan, Detroit Mission (1991-1992). She served as a Family History Extraction Worker until the time of her death. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She is survived by her husband and five children, Rodney (Carol) Merrell, Chad (Raelyn) Merrell, Glade (Suzanne) Merrell, Janalee (Tom) Wynn, and Brett (Elizabeth) Merrell. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and siblings Muriel Christensen, Lael Miller, Ona Frandsen, and Boyd Mortensen. Her funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 11:00 am at the Garland Tabernacle, 140 West Factory Garland, Utah. Family and friends may call Tuesday March 10, 2009 from 6-8 pm at the Garland Tabernacle and Wednesday from 9:30- 10:40 at the Tabernacle prior to the funeral.
