Betty Lou (Rasmussen) Didericksen

July 30, 1927 — February 22, 2026

Thatcher

Betty Lou Rasmussen Didericksen, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and servant of the Lord, lived a life of devotion, kindness, and quiet strength. Betty passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on February 22, 2026. She was born on July 30, 1927 in Elwood, Utah, the first of two children born to Gilbert Hughes Rasmussen and Dorma Lu Christensen Rasmussen. She grew up in Smithfield, Elwood,Tremonton, Utah and Los Angeles, California. She was baptized and confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Betty was married September 10, 1948 (later sealed in the Logan Temple, March 20, 1952) to Lytle Wendell Didericksen of Thatcher, Utah. Together, they had 5 children: Sherry Lee (Kenny), Jonette (George), Rick (Paula), Shane, Shannon (Clark), 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lytle and two daughters, Sherry and Jonette and her brother, Scott Rasmussen.

Betty graduated from Union High School in Los Angeles, California. She attended Utah State Agricultural College and afterwards, worked in Tremonton and Los Angeles as a bookkeeper in banking. Despite her love for accounting and numbers, her biggest desire was to be a wife and mother. Later in life, and after her family was raised, she started the Grantsville Senior Center (October 1977) and served as its director for 20 + years.

Life was a constant adventure for Betty, Lytle and the kids. Lytle’s work as a heavy equipment operator would take the family to many places in Utah as highways and byways were being constructed in the western US. She would go from Lytle’s jobsite to jobsite, pulling a trailer with a 1962 Ford station wagon and 5 screaming kids over dirt roads with switch backs and steep dropoffs in order for the family to be together during the summers. Lytle’s and Betty’s examples taught the family to be strong, close, independent and resilient and gave their children a love for the great outdoors.

Betty had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and a deep love for her Savior. As Betty raised and taught her children gospel principles, her faith and testimony continued to grow. She served in many church callings, including: Primary Teacher, Guide Patrol Leader, Primary President, Primary Stake Board Member, Stake Scouting Director, Stake Gospel Doctrine Teacher, Stake Director of Libraries, Family History Librarian, and Temple Ordinance Worker at both the Jordan River Temple and Salt Lake Temple.

Betty loved to curl up with a good book. She especially loved gospel doctrine subjects. She had a passion for crocheting and was noted for the many afghans she made for family, friends and “her girls” at the assisted living center. She loved to paint, which is evidenced by the plethora of paintings given to family and friends. One of her biggest passions was that of genealogy research. She loved researching her pioneer and pilgrim ancestry, as well as the Hughes family and her step-father’s lines.
