Betty Lou (Allen) Oberg

December 30, 1936 — May 25, 2026

Betty Lou Allen Oberg passed away peacefully at age 89 on Monday, May 25, 2026, in Brigham City, Utah. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all.

Betty was born December 30, 1936, to Lawrence William Allen and Dessie Baskin Allen in Alfred, Texas. Betty was one of eight siblings and was blessed to be part of a very loving family. Her family later moved to Hanford, California where Betty learned the value of working together on a farm. Frequently she would share stories of working with her siblings in the cotton fields, playing games in their yard, family dinners, her momma’s good cooking and her daddy’s gentle love.

Betty was a gifted student and enjoyed going to school. She learned to play the clarinet, violin and shared stories of singing on the radio. She also loved baseball, and played as a catcher on the boy’s baseball team. Her friends nicknamed her “Sunshine” because of her kind and happy personality. She was a cheerleader, prom queen and graduated with honors from Laton High School in Laton, California.

While attending College of Sequoias in Visalia, California she met the love of her life, Richard Arthur Oberg. They were married on July 7, 1956. They raised two children, Jennifer and Richard and enjoyed a wonderful life together on their walnut farm in Waterford, California. During this time, Betty also worked 25 years for the Stanislaus County Tax Department. After nearly 30 years of marriage, her sweetheart Richard passed away on January 2, 1986.

After his passing, Betty dedicated herself to serving her family and others. She served three full time missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Washington DC, Johannesburg South Africa and Hawaii. She also served many years at the Logan Utah Temple, as well as the Family History Library.

Betty’s kind and generous nature touched everyone that she knew. She faithfully loved her Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ, her wonderful family and her dear friends.

She is survived by her children Jennifer (Oberg) Jackson and Richard Oberg, nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She adored them all. She is also survived by her dear sister Willie June Childress. Additionally, she is survived by all who referred to her as “Grandma Betty” whether family or not. She loved you all.
