Brent Potter

On September 18, 2018 Brent M. Potter passed away peacefully at his home in Tremonton Utah.   He was born April 7, 1948 in Tremonton Utah to Steven and Lucille Potter.  Brent graduated from Bear River High School in 1966.  He married Katherine Maughan on March 3, 1967 in Garland Utah.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.  Together they had 3 children, Kevin, Tim and Jenny.  They later divorced although Brent remained a support to Kathy as her health declined.  Brent was married to Gayle Nelson Cutler, they were later divorced and remained friends.

Brent grew up on his dad’s farm in West Fielding and loved life on the farm.  He ran equipment and a crew at a young age and felt pride in his work.  Although life took his occupation in a different direction, farming was always his passion.

Brent entered the army and served 20 years in the National Guard.  He enjoyed the guard and the lifelong friendships he made while dedicating his time to his country.

Brent lived in Hyrum, Ut; Salt Lake City, UT; and Corinth, MS for short periods of time but spent most of his life in Tremonton, Utah

Brent was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  His most memorable callings were in the Scouting program with his sons and as an early morning seminary teacher in Mississippi.

Brent worked as an electrician for Deverl Payne after high school.   He later worked at Thiokol for 19 years where he made many friendships and was proud of his work and the space shuttle program.  He briefly worked for Aerospace in Huntsville, Alabama. He also worked for Moore Business Forms in Logan. Dad was able to spend the later part of his career as a Realtor.  He enjoyed being a Realtor and always went above and beyond for his clients.  He enjoyed his association with other agents in the valley.  Brent was rarely seen without his business partner, friend, and brother, Gary.

Brent was a member of the American Legion Devere Watkins Post 76.  It was truly a brotherhood and he cherished the service and friendship with these great men.

Brent was a generous person who was pleasant, outgoing and a friend to all.  He was involved in his community and enjoyed visiting with anyone.    Most conversations started or ended with a joke and with him offering you one of his business pens.  He enjoyed making others happy.  His positivity and happiness was infectious.  Brent fought for the underdog and felt compelled to stand up to any injustice.  Brent was a man you could count on.  He made himself available to help others whenever possible.  He put people before things.

Brent was proud of his children and made sure everyone knew it.  Children were drawn to him and he generously gave of his time to them, especially to his grandchildren who brought him his greatest joy.

Brent had an open-door policy and welcomed many into his home.  He made people feel welcome and comfortable.  The grandchildren loved to be at Papa’s house where he embraced their childhood imaginations and loved to fulfill their every wish.

Brent had many health problems that he dealt with gracefully and with little complaint.  He loved life and wanted to live it so he fought hard to overcome his ailments.  Brent was fortunate to have his son Kevin give him the gift of life by donating his kidney.  The family is forever grateful for those additional 11 years that allowed us to be with him.

Brent is survived by his children:  Kevin (Jackie) Potter, Tim Potter, Jenny (Blake) Goring.  8 grandchildren: Brooke (Clint) Davis, Alexa Baty, Micky Potter, Jackson Potter, Garrett Goring, Preston Goring,  Myranda (Guideon) Gonzalez, Colton Goring and 3 great-grandchildren, Cora, Everly & Knox.  His is also survived by his brother, Gary (Kathi) Potter, sister Jan (Terry) Kaae and sister-in-law Nondis Potter and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Katherine Potter, and brother Olene Potter.

In response to the usual “How are you?”  Brent’s answer was always “Wonderful!” and he truly was.

Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the Tremonton LDS 4th Ward Chapel (660 North 300 East, Tremonton).  Viewings will be held on Monday, September 24, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. at the Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home (111 North 100 East, Tremonton) and prior to the funeral service at the church on Tuesday from 9-10:30 a.m.
