Charles (Chuck) Larsen

December 14, 1936 — November 8, 2018

Chuck Larsen, 81, returned to his Heavenly home on November 8, 2018. He passed away peacefully at his home in Smithfield, UT, surrounded by his family. Chuck was born December 14, 1936. He is the first child born to Charles Wayne and Fern Bennett Larsen of Tremonton, UT. After his mother passed away in 1944, his dad married Ione Conger, who then became “mom” to Chuck and his sisters.

Chuck married Jean Allen on September 10, 1959, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Chuck was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served the Lord in many positions throughout his life. The first calling after he was married was to teach a Young Marrieds class with his wife, Jean, in Elwood, Utah. Other callings included Financial Clerk, Ward Clerk, High Counselor, Bishop, and executive secretary of the USU Young Adult Stake Presidency. He made lifelong friends while serving in these positions.

Chuck also enjoyed serving an LDS church mission to Houston, Texas, with his companion, Jean, from October 2003 to April 2005 as Mission Employment Specialists. After their mission, he served with Jean as a Ward Missionary Leader, Ward Librarian, and Primary teacher. These were his most favorite callings because he served with his sweetheart.

Chuck had a great life, despite many physical challenges. He began flying when he was 12 years old and worked alongside his dad and brothers in the family farm and spraying business. He graduated from USU in 1962 with a BSA in the Aviation Maintenance program. He joined the Industrial Technology Education Department at Utah State University in 1967. He graduated with his Master’s degree in June 1977, and officially retired in 2002. Some highlights from Chuck’s career include rebuilding the Wright Flyer and working with the students.

The most important things in Chuck’s life were serving the Lord, spending time with family, and flying. He enjoyed the many opportunities he had to serve in the church. He taught his family by example to serve the Lord and others. Family was always his number one priority. His greatest passion in life was the opportunity he had to build, fix, and fly airplanes with his brothers and friends. He often shared his testimony and life experiences with anyone he met.

Chuck is survived by his 5 children, Lana Jean Carter (Bryan), Cathy Larsen, Peggy Dale (Ronald), Charles Allen Larsen (Corinn), Wendy Saxton (Kerry), and 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren with 4 more on the way. He is also survived by his siblings, Joan Black, Diane Courtney, Wayne Larsen, and Bill Larsen.

He is preceded in death by his wife and companion, Jean, father, Wayne Larsen, “mother” Fern Bennett, “mom” Ione Conger, brother, Jim Supan, and sisters Janice Anderson and Peggy Larsen.
