It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Colten Joseph Naef, who left us too soon at the age of 28 on September 23, 2024, in Thatcher, Utah. Colten was born on January 30, 1996, in Ogden, Utah, to his loving parents Casey Duane Naef and Lisa Streker. He found his soulmate in Tilyr Nelson, reflecting a bond that many strive to find in a lifetime.

Colten’s adventurous spirit led him to live in various places including Honeyville, Deweyville, Bothwell, Utah, or anywhere there was a fire camp. Colten was a graduate of Bear River High School, and held numerous Wildland Fire certifications, showcasing his hard work and commitment to his passion. He made impactful contributions in roles at JMC Diesel Mechanic, Bureau of Land Management, Utah Division of Forestry Fire and State Lands, as Engine Boss, and with Big State Wildfire and Weber Fire District.

Colten’s zest for life was evident in his many interests including wrestling, baseball, motocross, rodeo, and the thrill of firefighting. He enjoyed the beauty of hunting and collecting rocks and gems. The rugged landscapes of the west desert held a special place in his heart, where he relished every opportunity to explore and discover. His selflessness shone brightly as he offered help to others whenever possible, embodying the spirit of generosity. 

Colten was a remarkable leader and mentor, known for his exceptional ability to understand and connect with others. His unique sense of humor brought joy to those around him, leaving a lasting on all who had the privilege of knowing him. 

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colten's faith and kindness touched many lives. 

He is survived by his father, Casey (Shelly) Naef; his mother, Lisa Streker; love of his life, Tilyr Nelson; his brother, Trapper Naef; and his grandmother, Susanne Thompson. He is also cherished by his grandparents, Debbie & Bob Fitzgerald and Richard & Geneva Naef. Colten is preceded in death by his brother, Kolten Lamb, and his grandfather, Gary Thompson.

Services for Colten will take place on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 2 P.M., with a visitation held prior from 12:30-1:45 P.M. at Rudd Funeral Home in Tremonton (111 N 100 E, Tremonton). The services will be livestreamed and may be accessed below.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who have reached out with love and support during this difficult time. Your kind words, thoughts, and prayers are a source of immense comfort, and they will forever be cherished.
