Crystal "Chrys" (Campbell)
Deatry
Aug 22, 1950 — Aug 21, 2026
Tremonton
Crystal “Chrys” Campbell Deatry was a beloved wife, mom, grandma, sister, teacher, cherished friend, faithful disciple of Jesus Christ, and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She peacefully returned to her Heavenly home, surrounded by her loved ones, on Friday, August 21, 2026, one day shy of her 76th birthday.
Chrys was the firstborn daughter of Robert Naf and Lillis Mae Campbell of Garland on August 22, 1950. She became a big sister to Tami 12 years later.
After graduating from Bear River High, she went to Utah State University to pursue her education. She asked her dad what she should do in life, and he told her to become a teacher, so that is what she did. She graduated from USU with her master’s degree in teaching. Education was very important to her. She was always serving others and listening. She once said, “I am a listener. I am and have always been a counselor.” In 2000, Chrys graduated with her second master’s degree from the University of Phoenix in Educational Counseling and accepted a position as a counselor at Box Elder Middle School.
While in college, she and her good friend met what she thought was a “handsome, young return missionary.” Little did Chrys know that he was not. She always said she wanted to serve a mission, and she was able to introduce the gospel to Jerry. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple on July 20, 1972. She signed her teacher certificate that same day. What a wonderful wedding gift!
She had many memorable achievements over her lifetime. She was a very talented calligrapher and oil painter. She created beautiful calligraphy for many certificates and signs for people before computers and printers would do it for us. As a teacher, she spent many late-night hours correcting papers, counting calligraphy practice sheets, and drying her students’ oil paintings in the oven.
For more than 36 years, Chrys dedicated her life to many children of the Box Elder School District, leaving a lasting influence on many youth. We can hear her saying, “Math and Art will make you smart!” She was a wonderful artist and shared her talents with others. Her most memorable achievement, however, was becoming a mother to Heather, Brandyn, and Jeremy.
She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa and served her community in the Tremonton Women’s Civic League. She earned her Young Women medallion while serving in the Young Women’s organization with her daughter Heather and helped both Brandyn and Jeremy receive their Eagle Scout awards. She was an example of love and service in her various church callings. Her favorite therapy was “retail therapy,” and gift-giving was her love language.
She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Many cherished memories were created while traveling together as a family to Disneyland, Las Vegas, Park City, and Leavenworth, Washington.
For more than 54 years, Chrys was the devoted and beloved wife of her husband, Jerry. Their marriage was built upon love, faith, friendship, family, and a lifetime of shared experiences. During the past several months, Jerry was relentless in his devotion to loving and caring for her. His tender service and commitment were a beautiful reflection of the enduring love they shared.
Chrys was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Lillis Campbell; her in-laws, James and Donna Tuveson; and Kenneth and Agnes Deatry.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry, and their children: Heather (Eric) Berger, Brandyn (TaNisha) Deatry, and Jeremy (Ashley) Deatry; her loving grandchildren, Noelle (Sean) Murphy, Annalisa Berger, Racquel Berger, McKenzie Deatry, Brad Deatry, Carson Deatry, Nova Deatry, Bryce Deatry, Noah Deatry, and Ellie Deatry; her sister and brother-in-law, Tami and Brent Deakin and family; and Jerry’s siblings and their families.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Enhabit Hospice and Dr. Justin Mansfield for their friendship and support during her final weeks.
