Delorise (John) Hales

Delorise John Hales, age 87, passed away November 20, 2025, at her home in Tremonton, Utah. She was born July 14, 1938, in Malad, Idaho, to Sara Emma Richards and Sylvera Benjaman John and was helped raised by her stepmom Hilda Schwartz John.

She married Stephen Kennard Hales July 15, 1957, in Malad, Idaho and they were later sealed in the Logan temple July 12, 1963. Kennard later passed April 18, 2016.

As a child she lived in Almeda, CA, Portage, UT and Malad ID. After she got married, they lived in Arbon Valley, ID; Pocatello, ID; Garland, Riverside and Tremonton, UT.

Delorise was educated in Malad, ID and graduated class of 1957.

As a teenager she cleaned homes, babysat and was a nurse aid at Malad hospital. After getting married she worked at May’s Dress Shop, Cross X Café, Audry’s sandwiches, Thiokol and OEA. She also babysat several neighborhood children.

Delorise’s biggest achievement was raising her six children alongside our dad. She won red and blue ribbons in the Box Elder County Fair for her hard work. She loved camping, sewing, hard work and gardening but most of all she loved spending time with her family.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served as Relief Society President, primary teacher and in the Young Women’s presidency. She belonged to the Simada study group and was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

Delorise is survived by her five children Kenna (Bruce) Carter, Roxanne Young, Brad Hales, David (Nena) Hales and James (Mandi) Hales; She is survived by her sisters Marie Hughes and Sylvia K. Claiborne; (Dale) 14 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband S. Kennard Hales; daughter Sara Jane Hales; parents Sylvera & Sara R & stepmom Hilda S John; In-laws Stephen & Glenna Hales; brother S. Jay John; three grandchildren, two great grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 11 A.M. Viewings will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 5-7 P.M. and prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 A.M. All services will be held at Rudd Funeral Home- Tremonton (111 N 100 E- Tremonton). Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed and can be accessed below.
