Dorothy Gunnell

June 4, 1919 — August 17, 2017

Dorothy Lavon Calderwood Richards Cordon Gunnell

Dorothy was born to Robert Salmon Calderwood and Ada Lluemma Wolf in Tremonton, Utah, on June 4,1919 and died peacefully on August 17, 2017, in Gilbert, Arizona, making her 98 years-young.

She was an honorable and wonderful daughter of God, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

She married Theodore Horace Richards on October 6, 1941.  They were sealed in the Logan, Utah Temple.  They were blessed with two children, Rita and Ted E.

She set an example of service, love, and righteousness all of her life.  Others have always welcomed her cheerful attitude and friendly helping hands. We will always remember the stories she read and told, the skits and singing provided for our entertainment, beautiful quilts made with love, and her long life of service shared with others - including church callings, three missions, and many years as a temple worker!

She loved solving daily cryptograms and newspaper puzzles to keep an active mind.  In her golden years, at the Bear River Valley Care Center and at American Orchards Assisted Living, she was queen of word search and master of smile spreading. She was actively involved in activities and regular exercise and enjoyed crafts, art, bingo, and board and card games up until her last breath.

She looked on the bright side of life and was a tremendous example for those around her of enduring well to the end.  She was certainly a blessing to all who knew her!

Being the youngest of nine children, she was preceded in death by two brothers, six sisters, her loving husband of twenty-nine years, Theo, and their little son of only 22 months.  She also outlived her second sweet husband of sixteen years, Nuel J. Cordon, and her third adoring husband of seventeen years, J. Darwin Gunnell.

Still living is her daughter Rita Richards Abbott Rhodes and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Thanks goes to the Rudd Funeral Home, the 4th Ward Relief Society, Bowcutt’s for lovely flowers, all other helpers, and those traveling from far and near.

The funeral service will be on Monday, August 28, 2017, with the Viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 followed by the service at 11:00 AM., in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Tremonton Stake Center, 660 N 300 E, Tremonton, Utah.
