Durand "Randy" Mack Hansen

September 23, 1946 — January 6, 2023

Elwood

Durand “Randy” Mack Hansen, 76, of Elwood, Utah, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2023 in Brigham City, Utah surrounded by his family. He was diagnosed with cancer in early summer, and his family is grateful for the time they had with him and the memories they were able to make in the months and weeks leading up to his death.

Randy was born on September 23, 1946 to Mack and Colleen Hansen in Elwood, Utah. After Randy graduated from Bear River High School in 1964, he married Mary Elaine Morris on July 6, 1964. Together they welcomed five children: Kimber “Kim”, Monique, Trycya, Shannon, and Tonn. One of his favorite activities was to attend the Calgary Stampede with Mary for their anniversaries.

He went on to become a long-time long-haul truck driver. With a CB name of “the Saint,” Randy spent much of his time on the road in conversation with other truckers, many of whom became great friends. He estimated that in his time as a trucker, he likely drove over seven million miles.

He had a deep, unquenchable thirst and love of learning, with subscriptions to National Geographic, Reader's Digest, Consumer Report, and many others. An avid reader, who was deeply interested in history, especially US history and the history of the LDS church, he would often have long conversations with friends and family to keep them informed as well.

In his later years, it became a passion of his to give copies of the United States Constitution to anyone and everyone, because he wanted people to know and exercise their rights. Always the storyteller, he would captivate anyone who would listen with his extensive knowledge of an even more extensive list of topics, often sharing stories of his trucking days and his many experiences on the road.

In 2017, Randy retired from trucking. As a lifelong resident of Elwood, he decided to run for mayor. He loved his time spent with the public as mayor. Randy was also an Elder in the LDS Church and held many callings including teaching Sunday School.

He is survived by his wife Mary, son Kimber (Rita) Hansen, daughter Monique (Stephen) Hales, daughter Trycya (Shayne) Leishman, daughter Shannon (Daron) Sorensen, son Tonn Hansen, sister Suzann Wardle, Robyn (Dean) Shakespear, Jody (Larry) Litchford, Kevin Hansen, Heidi (Jim Clemens) Cuskelly, Clayton (Allison) Hansen, and many grandkids and great grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack Ray Hansen and Colleen Miller Hansen, his brother-in-laws Greg Cuskelly and Laron Wardle, and a nephew Scott Wardle.

Randy's family is grateful for the loving care he received from those employed at Pioneer Valley Senior Living and CNS Hospice for providing end-of-life care. We would also like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to Karl, Jason and Dan for all of the support and love you have shown our Husband and Father.

Graveside will be held at Elwood Cemetery on Saturday, January 14th at 11:30 A.M.
