Elmo Christensen

July 2, 1935 — September 10, 2024

Bear River City

Elmo Fenton Christensen, age 89, passed away on September 10, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 2, 1935, to Irving Fenton and Carrie Jensen Christensen, in their home, in Bear River City, UT. He spent all but a short time of his life living in Bear River City.

After graduating from Bear River High School, he joined the National Guard where he served for 9 years. During this time, Elmo married his sweetheart, Kathleen Capener on November 21, 1959 they were later sealed in the Logan, UT temple on November 21,1961.

At a young age, he learned how to work hard. He helped local farmers pitch hay and pea vines onto a wagon, picked green beans, thinned beets, and anything else that needed to be done. In his spare time, he loved hunting and fishing to provide food for the table.

He enjoyed playing marbles with his brother and the other neighborhood boys. His favorite was to play for keeps. It has been said that he was pretty good at it and his mother often reminded him that he should return some of the marbles to the other boys so they could continue playing. He enjoyed fishing at the river as well.

In high school, he enjoyed fast cars, cute girls and participated in the student government. He was elected class officer his Jr year.

He started driving semi truck’s at age 16 and enjoyed doing that for many years. Other jobs included home construction for a short time in California, Christensen Feed and Seed, (grain elevator). Animal nutritionist, and farmer.

Elmo served 2 terms as Mayor of Bear River City. He loved Bear River City and enjoyed serving the community. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served faithfully in many callings in his Ward. He and Kathleen enjoyed their service at the Temple and at the Ogden Cannery. They were also privileged to serve at the Nauvoo Pageant two consecutive summers.

If you knew Elmo, you knew how much he loved his family and friends. That was everything to him. He loved and supported his family and friends fiercely. He could meet someone on the street or anywhere and quickly strike up a fun conversation and find some common ground to talk on. He had a way of making you feel like you were the most important person in the world. Elmo was often found helping family, friends and neighbors.

Elmo is survived by his wife Kathleen of 66 years; their children Denise Tolboe, Dennis (Rebeka) Christensen, Eugene (Toni) Christensen, Blair (Andrea) Christensen, and Janilyn (Jason) Huggins; and their 21 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren with one on the way. He is also survived by his sister Merideth Christensen Weese.

He was preceded in death by his parents Irving and Carrie Christensen; his siblings Lysle Christensen, Nola Christensen Nessler, Thirl Christensen, Gaylen Christensen, Floy Christensen Murray, Stanford Dee Christensen and Varge Christensen. He is also preceded in death by his grandsons Curtly Tolboe and Jason (Taylor) Huggins.

To all his family and friends, we can hear him saying to us as he is encouraging us to move forward: 'Way to fire'.

Special thanks to Enhabit Hospice, Kaylee Ranjel, Beehive Home, Mandy Harward and Dr Jeffrey Lish for the special care provided. We also thank family, friends and neighbors for their support, love and care.
