Elmo Kent Shaffer

Elmo Kent Shaffer passed away peacefully at home on November 17, 2023 at the age of 86. He was born at home in East Garland, Utah on August 20, 1937 to Kenneth and Lucille Shaffer. In his youth, Grandpa worked hard on the family farm with his dad, brother and uncles. He graduated from Bear River High School and Weber State College where he became a talented machinist.

Dad and Mom met at the Cache County fair and married on May 8, 1959 in the Logan Temple. They were blessed with four children. Dad was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a Seventy, High Priest and Elder. Kent worked at Thiokol, Vulcraft, Brigham Implement and Central Valley. He helped lots of farmers in the valley because he could fix anything with his skills.

One of his very favorite things to do was watch and cheer for his grandkids on the soccer or football field, at a wrestling match or baseball game. Dad and Mom loved spending summers together at the cabin. They spent many years working alongside family and friends building their mountain retreat. Dad had many friends on the mountain and they all knew Kent.

Grandpa loved fishing and hunting. The hunting and fishing trips were fun family gatherings we all cherished. He knew all the great grandchildren by name and always had a “high five” for each one.

Kent is survived by his wife, LaDawn, four children: Brian (Heidi), Brent (Colleen), Julie (Larry) Hess and Sherri (Eli) Pali, 12 grandchildren and 28 great grand grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings LuAnn Anderson, Dan (Janeal), Jean Jones, Joyce (Larry) Chambers, Susan Jensen and Ila Mae (Reed) Woods.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Lucille Shaffer.

Services will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 1 P.M. with a visitation held prior from 11:30 A.M.-12:30 P.M. All services will be held at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East in Tremonton, Utah. Interment will be held at the East Garland Cemetery.
