Obituary

Emily Louise Tolman Corbett, age 89, returned to her Father in Heaven on October 18, 2026, at her home in Tremonton, Utah. She was born August 21, 1937, in Garland, Utah, to Benjamin Hewett Tolman III and Emily L. Knowles, the youngest of ten children.

Louise grew up in Garland; Thatcher; Salmon, Idaho; Logan, Honeyville, Corinne, Fielding, Penrose and Tremonton, Utah. She graduated from Box Elder High School. She met the love of her life, Joseph Peck Corbett, in Salmon, Idaho, and they were married July 27, 1956, in the Logan Utah Temple.

For more than 55 years, Louise worked alongside Joe in their lawn mowing and small engine repair business, “Joe’s Fix-it Shop,” and also helped the family mow 56 lawns each week.

When her children and some grandchildren were young, Louise took them to the Bookmobile regularly to give them the chance to read.

She also loved making hollyhock dolls with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family life was camping and trips to the sand dunes, along with Sunday bike rides, and quiet evenings on the front porch. She was never above wearing a neon green wig and shirt to match Grandpa’s sand rail. One of the family’s favorite memories is the Disneyland trip she organized for everyone.

Her mom’s last request in 1975 when she passed was, “please keep the reunions going”. One of her greatest joys was making sure that her kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren attended the family reunions of the Tolman & Corbett Families. She loved the song  “Father Benjamin” that was sung at every Tolman reunion.

Louise enjoyed music, especially hearing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play instruments and sing. Because of her love of music, she and dad made it possible for Craig to learn the accordion and Sherrie the piano. One little known fact that brought her peace after Joe passed away was getting up at 2 a.m. in the morning and playing the piano. Music was important to her.

She was proud of her laundry and even up to her passing, she still hung up some clothes on her outside clothesline. Another hobby of hers was planting and taking care of a weedless and bugless garden. She was one of the first to welcome new neighbors and ward members, even before the Bishop! She especially loved all of her nieces and nephews and enjoyed when they came to visit.

Her grandchildren knew her home as a place for treats and fun. It was Dad that started with the kids and grandkids, buying them an 8-inch Dutch-oven, so that they each could have their own personal pan pizza. She kept an endless supply of flavored Gossner milks, and was always ready to help make a peanut butter sandwich with Grandpa Joe’s special peanut butter mixture. She encouraged her grandchildren to learn the ABCs backwards for a candy bar, those who did still know them today.

Louise was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held numerous callings, including serving in the Young Woman, Primary, and Relief Society Presidency. She and Joe served together as stake & ward missionaries, and they became known for their Christmas box visits where they dressed up as large wrapped boxes with big bows to deliver gifts. Every baptism they were invited to, she gave a comforter blanket. She always took around little poems or mementos to brighten someone’s day.

She was also so excited to have five of her great-grandchildren currently serving a full-time LDS mission.

She is survived by her children, Craig (Natalie) Corbett, Sherrie (the late L. O'Deen) Kay, Allen (Lyn) Corbett, and Tamera (Jim) Johnson; fifteen grandchildren; and 33 1/4 great-grandchildren.

Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Corbett; her parents, Benjamin Hewett Tolman III and Emily L. Knowles; her nine siblings, Ralph, Benjamin, Gerald, Don, Vonda, Twila, Edward, Rex, and Jack; her son-in-law, L. O’Deen Kay; and a great-grandson, Preston Beck.

Special thanks to the Tremonton 5th Ward, her neighbors and friends, doctors, and nurses that helped her throughout the years.
