Frances was born January 20, 1936, in Mulkeytown, Illinois, the eighth of nine children born to William Moss Carter and Frances Violet Davis Carter. She was raised there on the family farm where she learned her strong work ethic and lifelong love of animals and gardening. She graduated from high school in nearby Christopher. After graduation she spent time in St. Louis and North Carolina with her brother Bill and his wife June while he was in the military. She also traveled to California with her sister Katie and spent some time. Mom came to Utah to be with her sister Marge and brother-in-law Bill. She really enjoyed spending time with them and their children. Mom worked as a waitress at the Green Rock café and the Crossroads Cafe, which is where she met Bill Hunsaker. After going together for a while, they got engaged to be married after she got approval from Aunt Marge that he was a nice boy.
Bill and Fran married May 4, 1956, and made their home in Tremonton. They eventually welcomed six children; four daughters and two sons. Mom stayed home while the kids were young but went back to waitressing later. She worked at the Cross X Café, the Western Trails and then JC’s Diner before retiring. After they both retired, mom & dad moved to Troy, Montana where they built their dream log home. They spent almost 20 happy years there and made some wonderful friends who helped them so much. After dad’s passing in 2023, mom moved back to Tremonton to be near family.
Mom passed away Monday, August 17, 2026, after a brief illness. She’s survived by her sisters Katherine Vitale and Barbara Reed, children Trudy (Larry) Tubbs, Julie Steinburg, Robert Hunsaker, James Hunsaker, Amanda Hunsaker and Samantha (Clark) James.
Graveside service will be held Saturday, August 22 at 12 p.m.-Noon at the Honeyville Cemetery.
