Gloria Gould Hathaway, age 88, passed away on April 7, 2024, in Tremonton, Utah. She was born on December 29, 1935, in Ogden, Utah to Herbert Ray Gould and Vesta Elizabeth Johnson.
Gloria lived in Ogden, Elwood, and Tremonton, Utah. She graduated from Ogden High School.
Gloria married Neil Harrington in 1954. Together, they had five children. They were later divorced.
She married Thoedore (Ted) Hathaway October 19, 1972, in Ogden, Utah. They were later sealed in the Ogden, Utah Temple in 1996. Together with Ted’s six children, they raised a family of eleven. Ted passed away on October 13, 2012.
She had a fulfilling career working at various places including First Security Bank and Flying J Corporate Office, where she retired in 2002.
Gloria was a talented handcraft artist. She enjoyed knitting and created hundreds of intricate afghans for her children and grandchildren. Her craftsmanship was recognized with several blue-ribbon and sweepstakes awards at local fairs. She also crocheted hand towels and hot pads for family gatherings and gifts. Quilting was a lifelong passion for her; over the years she crafted over 400 quilts, generously donating most of them to hospitals and charitable organizations.
Devoting her time as a volunteer at Bear River Valley Hospital brought immense joy to Gloria. Her dedication amounted to an impressive 6,240 hours of service over two decades.
Gloria maintained a pristine garden. She was very particular about how it looked and made sure that every last weed was pulled out. She despised the weeds but enjoyed being outside in the garden digging in the dirt.
Her love for music led her to excel at playing the piano. She generously shared her skills by teaching her daughters and grandchildren how to crochet, knit, quilt, and play the piano.
A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gloria served in various capacities within the church including Scout Leader, Pianist, and Stake Missionary.
Gloria is survived by her loving children Shellie Struble, Ken (Chari) Hathaway, Valerie (John) Glover, Rebecka Hathaway, Gary Harrington, T.J. (Diana) Hathaway, Stacie (Gordon) Ferguson, Ben (Adrienne) Hathaway, Dee (Cindy) Hathaway, Holly Harrington (Robert) Goss, and Wendy (John) Wright. She is also remembered by her 34 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Theodore Hathaway, grandsons Dontae and Ryder Ferguson, granddaughter Nisa Rodriguez, her parents, siblings and sons-in-law Gordon Ferguson and John Glover.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Noon with a viewing held prior from 9-11:30 A.M. All services will be held at the Tremonton South Stake (1150 S Tremont St, Tremonton). Interment will be held at the Elwood Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed and may be accessed below.
The family extends special thanks to all those who provided care and support during Gloria's final days including Rudd Funeral Home, Tremonton 12th Ward Relief Society and Bishop, Bear River Valley Hospital staff, especially Dr. Taylor and Dr. Walker, CNS Hospice Services team, Margo and Verl Peterson, Dr. Lund, Kelsey Bingham, and Nucor Steel Utah.
