Hobart D. Dalton, age 87, passed away on April 23, 2026, in Deweyville, Utah. He was born on December 22, 1938, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ambus Isaac and Phyllis Ione Loveland Dalton.
Hobart’s life was marked by dedication to his family, his faith, and his career. He married Gayla Keller, and following their later divorce in 1983, he married Linda F. Clark, who preceded him in death in January 2023.
Throughout his life, Hobart lived in many places, including Salt Lake City and Layton, Utah; Mz-Gretzenheim and Wiesbaden in the Federal Republic of Germany; Sunnyvale and Lancaster, California; and ultimately, Deweyville, Utah.
He was a graduate of Bear River High School and furthered his education at Weber State College, where he earned a Certificate in Electronics. Hobart had a distinguished career as an electrical engineer, working for Unisys, DARPA, and the Department of Defense. His contributions included work on the Sargent Missile program, the development of early drone tracking and control systems launched from Lockheed C130 aircraft, and hardware deployed across the Pacific in counter-surveillance efforts during the Cold War in Cuba and Korea and then later the middle east.
Hobart retired from Sperry Engineering Laboratory in Utah in 1999. In his leisure time, he enjoyed woodworking, stained glass making, antiquing, photography, and extensive travel. He was known for his remarkable ability to repair mechanical and electrical devices.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hobart attributed his safe return from his international experiences to his faith in the Lord and Savior. He also expressed deep gratitude for his stepfather, Albert Victor Smith, whose steadfast support meant the world to him.
Hobart is survived by his ex-wife Gayla Dalton; children Gina Gay (Greg) Anderson, Jennifer Louise (Tim) Huntsman, Kelley Susan (Troy) Murray; stepson Travis Lee Miller along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda F. Clark, and great-granddaughter Grace Woolsey.
A graveside service to honor Hobart’s life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at noon at the Deweyville Cemetery. The family invites all who knew him to join in remembering a man who touched many lives with his kindness, skill, and faith.
