Horace (Sam) Edgar Millhone passed away January 19, 2026, at Beehive Home in Perry, Utah after a three-year battle with dementia. Sam was born June 23, 1941, at home in Senecaville, Ohio to Langdon Howard Millhone and Leah Geraldine Finley.
He attended the first half of first grade in Ohio but then moved to Webster, South Dakota through fourth grade. He moved back to Ohio and finished his schooling in Louisville, Ohio. After graduation he hired on with AT&T long lines putting in transcontinental phone service.
Sam was drafted into the army in 1961 and served two years in Germany. He married Jane Louise Brainerd, September 3, 1966, but later divorced. On August 12, 1974, he married the love of his life Toni Lee Christensen in Bear River City. They solemnized their marriage on May 28, 1976, in the Salt Lake Temple.
After his marriage he transferred from AT&T to the bell systems and lived in Douglas, Wyoming until his retirement in 2007. Then he worked for the school district installing smartboards and computer labs until his retirement in 2011. In 2011 he then moved to Bear River City, Utah.
Sam enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved his family and spending time with them. He wasn’t afraid of heights and liked to bungee jump off towers, and parachuting. He also took private flying lessons and soloed. He loved nature and enjoyed camping, river rafting, backpacking and the mountains where he skied up into his seventies. He rode a Harley and even went to Sturgis, South Dakota for rallies.
Sam worked in the South Pacific where he was introduced to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and became a member. He held many different callings in the church including a member of the bishopric, executive secretary to the bishop and a scout leader but his favorite calling was that of an ordinance worker in the Brigham City Temple.
Sam is survived by his wife of 51 years and three daughters, Amalie Ann Millhone (Tom Fletcher) of Spearfish, South Dakota, Amanda Lee Miller (Matt) of Golden, Colorado, Angela Lynn (Brett Stumpp), of Los Angeles, and three grandchildren, Bodi Miller, Keon Miller and Anika Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Lewis Millhone and sister Wanda Schmucker.
Services will be held Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 11 A.M. with a viewing held prior from 9-10:30 A.M. All services will be held at the Bear River City Church (5870 N 4700 W- Bear River City). Interment to follow at the Bear River City Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed and can be accessed below.
Compassionate service will be provided by the Bear River City wards. A special thanks goes out to the caregivers at Beehive Home in Perry and Rudd Funeral Home.
