James Lee ValDez, age 80, peacefully passed away on January 21, 2026, at his home in Thatcher, Utah. He was born on May 1, 1945, in Rock Springs, Wyoming, to Albert Arthur ValDez and Mary Jane Bloom.
James proudly graduated from Bountiful High School in 1963. On April 16, 1977, he married Lorrie Jean Pitkin in Bountiful, Utah, and together they built a loving home in Thatcher, Utah.
His dedication to service was evident during his four years as a mechanic in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he worked at J & J Awnings in Bountiful for four years before joining Thiokol/ATK in Promontory, Utah, where he dedicated 25 years of his career until his retirement in 2007.
James had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed activities such as oil painting, fishing, boxing, and horseshoes. He was also skilled in carpentry and mechanics. Above all, James cherished time spent with his family, finding joy in the company of his grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lorrie ValDez; his sons, Trevor ValDez (Tracy) and Travis ValDez (Jodie); his daughter, Terra Dressler (Doug); along with his grandchildren, Logan, Kayden, Hailey, Abbie, Hailey, Tyler, Emma, Mikayla, and Carson; two great-grandchildren, JuJu and August; and his sister, Edith Sutter.
James is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Betty Jo; his brother, Al; and his in-laws.
He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
