Janiece (Hill) Pugsley

September 15, 1942 — April 6, 2026

Tremonton

Janiece Hill Pugsley was born in Tremonton, Utah, on Tuesday, September 15, 1942, at 3:00 p.m., to her loving parents, Irene Breaufort Davis and James Franklin Hill. She passed away peacefully on Easter Monday, April 6, 2026.

Janie was the youngest of six children, cherished as the baby of the family by her four sisters—Zella, Fanette, Anna Lee, and Jolene—and her brother, Eugene.

From an early age, Janie’s warmth and light were evident to all who knew her. At just four years old, she was named an attendant in the Little Princess contest at the Box Elder County Fair and Rodeo—a reflection of the beauty and kindness that would define her life. Though she often faced illness, she attended McKinley Elementary School and continued her education with determination. In 1955, she was part of the first class to enter junior high as freshmen in the eighth grade. After four years of seminary, she received a special certificate in missionary training. She graduated from Bear River High School in 1960.

Janie had a deep and abiding love for her faith as a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully in many callings throughout her life, from Primary to Relief Society, touching countless lives with her compassion, testimony, and willingness to serve.

Janie met her sweetheart, James Philip Pugsley, in the simple, sweet moments of passing back and forth to “The Pie Dump,” a favorite gathering place for local teens. Before long, they set a date to begin their forever, marrying on November 18, 1960. They began their life together with a honeymoon at Disneyland—the happiest place on earth—a joyful and fitting start to a marriage filled with love, laughter, and a touch of magic.

Their bond was deep and enduring, marked by tenderness, devotion, and a quiet understanding of one another. Together, they built a life centered on love and family, raising their children, Brian Philip Pugsley and Christy Pugsley (Jenkins). They also lovingly held close the memory of their baby boy, James Kevin, and another baby boy, who preceded them in passing. Janie was sealed to her husband and children for time and all eternity on June 14, 1973—a sacred blessing she cherished deeply.

Janie had a special love for creativity and the arts, especially when it came to plays. She wrote several herself and delighted in bringing them to life, even convincing her son to take on the role of Tinker Bell—just one example of the joy, humor, and imagination she brought into the lives of those around her.

Janie devoted her life to her family, creating traditions and making every moment meaningful. She never missed a chance to sing “Happy Birthday,” host a celebration, or simply call to say she cared. She remembered every special moment—both big and small (like her)—and made each person feel seen, loved, and valued.

To know Janie was to be known and loved in return. Her life was a beautiful example of kindness, devotion, and quiet strength, and her memory will be treasured always.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim; two baby boys; her parents; and all of her siblings.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Brian (Christy) Pugsley and Christy (Tom Jenkins) Pugsley; eight grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren (thirty-seven including spouses), and one great great grandbaby who will carry on her legacy of love.
