Kaaren Elaine Thompson, lovingly known as Bugs or Wabbit to some of her closest friends, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, with her husband by her side on December 19, 2025.
Kaaren was born on March 24, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Herbert and Bernice Schorsch. She later married the love of her life and best friend, Richard Z. Thompson, on March 15, 1986, in Willard, Utah. Together, they shared a devoted and loving marriage for almost 40 years.
Kaaren was the only child which made her fascination with the large Thompson clan all the more special. She embraced their family fully, and the many adventures they shared together will be treasured forever.
Kaaren spent her life in various locations throughout Weber County, but settled in West Haven for the past 40 plus years. She graduated from Weber High School and went on to build a long and dedicated career, retiring after 27 years with the IRS in Ogden.
In her earlier years, Kaaren worked as a model for ZCMI, a reflection of the elegance she carried throughout her life. She was truly a classy lady—always dressed to the nines, with impeccable style and never a hair out of place. She carried herself with confidence, grace, and pride, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Kaaren loved fishing—often humorously noted while wearing high heels—and won several contests, including the Sturgeon Derby in Ilwaco, Washington, where her catch was so impressive it earned her both the weekly and yearly competition titles. She loved to read and was a pro at crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed trips to Wendover to play the nickel slots and was affectionately known as the family’s “Lady Luck,” frequently winning games of Five Crowns with family.
Kaaren is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Richard Z; her children Brian (Patricia) Woodland and Natalie (Brandon) Olsen; her stepdaughter Sara (Ian) Demers; thirteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly. Her face would light up every time her family came to visit.
