Karrie Long Shelton – our beloved wife, mother, grandma, sister, daughter, friend, cheerleader, Dr. Pepper enthusiast, and Justin’s forever soulmate – has hung up her hiking boots and running shoes after a courageous battle with complications from a rare strain of E. coli.
Karrie was born in Logan, Utah, to Brad Long (Deb) and Paulette (Dan). She grew up in Cache Valley before moving to Tremonton, where she spent the remainder of her childhood. It was at the county fair that she met her high school sweetheart, Justin Troy Shelton, sparking a love story that would define both of their lives. Married on April 23, 1994, and later sealed in the Logan Temple in November 1996, Karrie and Justin shared a bond that was nothing short of extraordinary—genuine soulmates, best friends, and partners in every sense.
Together, they raised four incredible children—Dylan (Abbey), Hunter, Taylor (Carson), and Gunnar—each of whom was the light of her life. Her joy multiplied with the arrival of her cherished grandchildren: Dylan Jane, Emmitt, and Scottie. Being “Grandma K” was one of her greatest joys, and she poured every bit of her heart into her family.
Karrie was a true pillar of her community. With a gift for connection and a heart that never stopped giving, her circle of friends stretched far and wide. She had the rare ability to make everyone feel like they mattered—and she meant it. Whether cheering from the sidelines as BR Lacrosse’s most dedicated fan, volunteering at church, or organizing meals for those in need, Karrie lived a life of service and love. She was always on the go—attending games, making treats, checking in on friends, and finding ways to help. Her laugh was contagious, her hugs healing, and her presence comforting. And when the day was full, she loved nothing more than a good nap.
She adored the outdoors and found peace and adventure in hiking with Justin—always looking for a new trail to conquer together. Their shared adventures were just one way their love continued to grow, even after three decades together.
Karrie also found fulfillment in her 13-year career with Adams Wealth, where she formed lifelong friendships and was known for her genuine care and uplifting spirit.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Karrie served in many callings throughout her life, most recently as the Ward Relief Society President. Her leadership was marked by compassion, inclusiveness, and strength—qualities that defined her both in and out of the church.
She is survived by her husband and eternal companion, Justin; their children and grandchildren; her siblings; many beloved nieces and nephews; her parents; and Justin’s parents, Jim and Sandra Shelton. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Kelly Wise; her nephew, Riley Green; her grandparents, Sam and Janice Chournos, Enid Anderson, and Chester Emmet; and Justin’s grandparents, Lova and Dewane Adams, and Viola Shelton.
