Kathleen Richards Burt, age 67, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was born on August 5, 1958, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Aaron and Jetta Richards. She was raised in Farmington, Utah, where she worked daily on the family Jersey dairy farm.
Kathleen graduated from Davis High School and then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Utah State University. While at USU, she met and began dating Dennis Chlarson Burt. They later married on October 5, 1979, in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. Together they built a life rooted in faith, service, family, and community. They made their home in Bear River City, where they raised their four children.
Kathleen dedicated her professional life to serving children, families, and individuals in need. She worked for many years at Century Elementary School as a long-term substitute teacher and later as a teacher’s aide, where she taught keyboarding and art. Toward the end of her time there, she also began working part-time as a social worker. She later finished her time at the elementary school and increased to full-time as a social worker with Bear River Mental Health until her retirement in 2020.
Kathleen was deeply committed to serving others. She was honored with the Silver Beaver Award for her exceptional service in Scouting and completed Wood Badge training. Her life was marked by quiet leadership, compassion, and a willingness to serve wherever she was needed. In her many personal relationships and interactions, she was particularly talented in making individuals feel uniquely seen and valued. Everyone felt like her personal favorite, and no one could doubt her infinite love for them.
Kathleen was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings, including den leader, Primary president, Young Women’s presidency member, and Relief Society president. Her testimony, kindness, and steady example touched countless lives.
An avid lover of the outdoors, Kathleen found joy in camping, gardening, and appreciating the beauty of nature. She especially delighted in family and community Halloween traditions, and she treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Dennis Burt; her children, Brionne (Aaron) Neilson, Benjamin (Sasha) Burt, Brindi (Christopher) Rawlings, and Bridger (Machaela) Burt; and her fourteen cherished grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron and Jetta Richards; her brother, Calvin Richards; her sister, Gloria Ann Richards; her sister-in-law, Linda Burt; and her son-in-law, Gentry Thompson.
