On Monday, January 7, 2019, Leona Potter Austin was reunited with many of the people she loved most- her parents, Robert John and Lottie Rucker Potter, her husband, Jack M. Austin, and her twin sister, Naoma Potter Atkinson. There were brothers and sisters, in-laws and friends also rejoicing as she returned home to her Heavenly Father at the age of 94.
Although she was born a tiny twin, she had a big presence in every way. She was an icon and her passing is the end of an era for many.
She left behind three sons; John (Carol), Mike (Shelley), and Rand (Robyn) Austin, six grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, four nieces who called her their “Nother Mother”, and many other relatives and friends.
Leona made the best cinnamon rolls and loved word search puzzles. Many were blessed by her service. She crocheted stocking caps for all she knew and many she didn’t. She made numerous quilts, served in many church callings, and was a great friend to all who visited her “beauty shop”. She collected humorous quotes, loved animals (especially her cat, Dolly), and loved to feed any and all who came to her home.
Leona was known for her wit and humor, her colorful language and yes, even her sarcasm sometimes. While her passing will leave a hole in our hearts, we are happy for her and know that we will be with her again.
