Lynn Hardy, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on September 14, 2026, at the age of 81. His life was defined by his love for his wife and family, devotion to his faith, commitment to his community, and a willingness to serve others wherever he was needed.

Lynn was born January 21, 1945, in Brigham City, Utah, the sixth of ten children born to John Melvin and Alva West Hardy. He grew up on the family dairy farm in Bear River City, where he attended the local schoolhouse through eighth grade before graduating from Box Elder High School.

Lynn graduated from high school during the Vietnam War and decided to enlist in the United States Army Reserve. He completed basic training at Fort Ord, California, and artillery training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and served for six years. It was during his military service that Lynn met Nancy, the woman who would become the love of his life. He often described meeting her as the best thing that ever happened to him. They were married on November 23, 1968, and built a beautiful life together.

Shortly after their marriage, Lynn began farming in Elwood, Utah. He and Nancy raised their three sons, Nate, Ryan, and Matt, on the farm and Lynn later entered into a farming partnership with his brother Jay. They built a successful dairy operation that continued for nearly 45 years. Farming demanded long hours, perseverance through difficult winters, and the ability to face challenges with determination. Lynn embraced the work and the responsibility that came with it, teaching his family by his example the value of persistence, responsibility, and doing one’s best.

Lynn’s faith was central to his life. He shared the gospel with Nancy and later had the privilege of baptizing her. One of the most meaningful days of his life came when Lynn and Nancy, together with their three young sons, were sealed as a family for time and all eternity. His testimony of Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the restored gospel remained a source of strength and direction throughout his life.

That faith was expressed through a lifetime of service. Lynn served in youth and Scouting programs, in a bishopric and on a high council, and frequently spoke in wards throughout the stake. He and Nancy served a three-year mission with the Church’s interfaith committee, followed by three years as temple workers in the Brigham City Utah Temple.

Lynn was equally devoted to the community he called home. He served more than 20 years in public service in Elwood, including as a member of the Elwood City Council, two terms as mayor, and chairman of the Elwood Planning Commission. He was particularly proud of his role in helping bring Hansen City Park to the community. His service extended beyond Elwood, through the Bear River Canal Company board, leadership positions with the Holstein Association, and six years on the Utah Dairy Commission.

He also found great joy in sports and in helping young people. Lynn loved coaching all of his sons in baseball, football, and basketball. Through coaching, he formed friendships that lasted for decades and found fulfillment in encouraging young people and watching them grow. He was a proud, diehard Aggie and enjoyed attending Utah State football and basketball games with family and friends.

Some of Lynn’s most treasured memories were made with Nancy and their sons. Family life was filled with ball games, fishing trips, camping, and backpacking adventures in the Uinta Mountains. Later, Lynn built a family cabin at Sweetwater, creating a place where generations could gather and make memories together. After retiring from farming at age 70, Lynn had more time to devote to his grandchildren. He rarely missed an opportunity to watch them compete in dance, track, volleyball, football, wrestling or baseball. Their accomplishments brought him immense pride and happiness.

Lynn leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, hard work, steadfastness, and service. His example will continue through the family he cherished, the community he served, the young people he encouraged, and the many lives he touched through a lifetime of quiet, faithful service.

Lynn is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; sons Ryan (Joyce) and Matt (Destry); daughter-in-law Natalie (widow of Nate); 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and siblings Dee, Jay, Allen, Wayne, and Karen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alva; siblings Joyce, Doris, Janet, and Kevin; and his oldest son, Nate.

The Hardy family will welcome visitors at a viewing on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Rudd Funeral Home- Tremonton, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton, Utah 84337 and prior to the service at the Elwood Ward Church from 9-10:30 A.M.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Elwood Ward Chapel, 4865 West 9600 North, Elwood, Utah 84337.
