Margaret Reta Hupp Durrans, 90, was born on February 16, 1935, in Providence, Utah, and passed away in Perry, Utah, on August 5, 2025. She was the daughter of Albin (Rudy) Hupp and Almeda (Meda) Smith Parker Hupp.
Margaret married the love of her life, Richard Franklin Durrans, in Tremonton, Utah, on February 12, 1966. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in February 1972.
Margaret spent her career as a nurse. She graduated from Weber State University as part of its first nursing school graduating class. She worked in various capacities, primarily in the Emergency and Operating Rooms of hospitals around the country. She even spent time as a travel nurse in Innsbruck, Austria.
Margaret served in many LDS Church callings, including Relief Society President on three different occasions. She also served as Young Women’s President and in many other church roles. After retirement, she served a full-time mission with Richard in Piura, Peru, and another mission at Welfare Square in Salt Lake City.
Margaret was naturally funny and told the best stories—some of which got better with each telling. Even in her later years, she remained funny, loving, and endearing. She could always bring a smile to your face.
Margaret was an expert candy maker, and her pecan rolls were anxiously awaited every holiday season. She also loved knitting and quilting. However, the joy of her life was her children and grandchildren, whom she supported in all they did.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband Richard; her parents, Albin Hupp and Almeda Parker Hupp; her brother, Parker Hupp; and her stepdaughter, Marcelle Durrans Iribarren.
She is survived by her two sons, David (Kimberly) and Gordon (Heather), and five stepchildren from Richard’s first marriage: Rocky (Janet, deceased), Lane (Alice), Denise Smith (Craig), Randi Kay Durrans, and Ranae Price (James). She is also survived by her brothers, Richard Hupp (Linda, deceased) and Thayne Hupp (Marsha); her sister, RuthAnn Rittenberg (Steve, deceased); and her sister-in-law, Geraldine (Parker, deceased). Margaret is also survived by over 60 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom loved their Grandma Durrans.
The family is deeply saddened by the loss of our mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, who dedicated her life to her family and her faith.
The family sends their love and thanks to Mandi and her amazing staff at the Beehive Home of Perry for their tender love and care for Margaret. We would also like to thank Rachel from Bristol Hospice for her love and support, and her prior caregiver, Patricia Miranda—all of whom cared deeply for Margaret. We love you all.
