Margie Goring

June 21, 1926 — September 20, 2014

On September 20, 2014, Margie Elizabeth (Carter) Goring concluded her life’s final chapter in mortality. She was 88 years wise and, having been surrounded by those whom she cherished in her beloved Deweyville home, was able to release her hold on this life and sweetly embrace the next.

Margie’s story began in a small Illinois town – Mulkeytown – being born to William and Francess Carter on June 21, 1926. She later came out west to visit her aunt Becky in a small Utah town – Tremonton – where she met and was courted by William Fredrick “Bill” Goring. On February 28, 1947, the two married in Nevada and returned to East Tremonton to begin their family, later on June 6th 1998, their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Almost 50 years later, Margie and Bill built a home in yet another small town in Utah – Deweyville. After 2 brief months’ time, Bill passed away on November 11, 1996, in his sleep. They were just shy of being married 50 years.

Prior to becoming a wife and mother, Margie completed her education in Mulkeytown and was a Blue Grass High School graduate, class of 1940. Next she joined the Army and after a year of service she received an honorable discharge. Margie returned to Illinois but soon worked her way back west. She took the role of a nanny in Denver, Colorado.

When Margie came to Tremonton, she was employed at the dime store and also worked for Dr. White at the hospital. She most enjoyed helping deliver babies.

Once married, Margie became a full time wife and mother, having five babies of her own. She was an excellent cook and loved to comb the ditch banks for wild asparagus. Most of all, Margie enjoyed working the family sheep business alongside her husband. Margie and Bill often took time to stop and fish after a hard day’s work. They also enjoyed fishing excursions in Alaska, where she caught a prized 176 lb. halibut. Bill was so proud that he had a fiberglass trophy made using the actual tail of the fish and an engraved plaque that reads, “Grandma Goring’s Big Fish Tail.”

Margie was a member of the LDS church. She was both baptized and endowed alongside her granddaughter, Angie (Goring) Robbins. She was a member of the Utah Woolgrowers Auxiliary for many years. She was also a member of the Tremonton Civic League. Margie made friends and loved deeply. Her family, however, was her life.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, William & Francess Carter; husband, William Fredrick “Bill” Goring; children, Josephine and Maxine Goring; sisters, Violet and Julie Carter; brothers, Lawrence, Charles, William and Marion Carter.

She is survived by William Henry “Junior”(Sherie) Goring, Deweyville, UT; Kathy (Bob) Bessinger, Honeyville, UT; Mary Ellen Goring, Deweyville, UT; Florence (Russ) Reed, Katie (Joe) Vitali, Francess (Bill) Hunsaker, Barbara (Phil) Reed; 15 grandchildren, 63 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to the caregivers that cared for Margie at home; those who provided care and service at BRV care center; Dr. Jan-Erik Schow and the many other doctors, nurses, and others who offered care and comfort in critical times.
