Early Life and Education

Marilyn grew up in Mendon, Utah, and later attended Utah State University, where she earned a degree in Home Economics and Education. After graduation, she moved to Portland, Oregon, to begin her teaching career. There she met her husband, Dee, and they were married in the Logan, Utah temple in June 1957. She continued teaching in the Granite School District in Salt Lake City while Dee completed his studies at the University of Utah.

Family and Work

In 1962, Marilyn and Dee settled in Placentia, California, where they raised their family. She was deeply involved in the PTA, active in her ward, and ran a preschool for many years. Through her work, she touched the lives of countless young families and was a trusted resource in early childhood development. A devoted mother, she was always present and engaged in her children’s activities.

After her children were grown, Marilyn and Dee moved to Agoura Hills, California, where she worked in administrative roles at Waddell & Reed. She also served as a temple worker in the Los Angeles Temple.

Service and Faith

Faith and service were central to Marilyn’s life. In retirement, she and Dee served a mission for the LDS Church in India and Malaysia, where she formed lasting friendships she treasured for the rest of her life. Afterward, they made their home in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, where Marilyn also served as a temple worker in the Salt Lake City temple.

Hobbies and Interests

Marilyn delighted in creating meaningful memories with her family. She organized summer camps for her grandchildren, documented family milestones through scrapbooking, and enjoyed quilting and jigsaw puzzles. She loved gardening, canning fruit, and playing daily card games with Dee, Grandma Ruth, and anyone else who happened by the house in the afternoon.

She was an enthusiastic baseball fan, and she and Dee often took road trips to Wyoming to visit their sons and see their airplanes. Some of her fondest memories included sightseeing flights in Alaska with her son Jon, exploring beautiful places from the air.

Legacy

Marilyn lived a full and generous life, marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and her community. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
