Tremonton

Meda Arlene Christensen Murphy, age 87, returned to her Heavenly Father on July 10, 2026, in Bountiful, Utah. She was born on July 31, 1938, in Tremonton, Utah, to Hyrum Mads and Rosa Abel Christensen, the seventh of their daughters and a cherished part of a loving family.

Meda married the love of her life, Owen Robert Murphy, on March 24, 1959, in Logan, Utah, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned 67 years. Together they lived an adventurous life, following Owen’s Air Force career across Washington, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Texas, Spain, Germany, Japan, and Maine, building a home filled with faith, creativity, and laughter wherever they went.

A graduate of Fruitland High School in Idaho, Meda was a gifted homemaker whose talents blessed everyone around her. She was a seamstress, baker, and chef. Her children proudly refer to Mom as a domestic goddess. Her hands were rarely still—she excelled in sewing, Bunka art, Ikebana flower arranging, embroidery, crochet, ceramics, and collected beautiful ceramic statues. She sewed the dress she wore in her second‑grade class photo and later created both her own wedding dress and her daughters’ wedding dresses, stitching love into every seam.

Music was woven into her life as well. Meda played the flute, clarinet, recorder, piano, and sang with joy. She delighted in games, crafts, and any activity that brought people together.

Meda served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, offering her time and testimony in many callings, including Stake Primary President, Ward Young Women’s President, Ward Relief Society President, Choir Director, and Gospel Doctrine Teacher. One of her most cherished experiences was serving a mission with her husband at the Martin’s Cove Handcart Site, where she shared her love of pioneer heritage and the gospel.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Owen; her children Douglas, Gregory (Joan), Lisa Eggleston (Brent), Jennifer Bischoff (Richard), Linda Hunzeker (Mark), and Rosa; 18 grandchildren; 17 great‑grandchildren; and her sisters Mary Ellen, LuEva, Afton, Rosa May, Georgia, and Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Peggy Christensen Bateman and Anne Methley Christensen, her brother Hyrum Abel (HA) Christensen, and by her parents Hyrum and Rosa Christensen, and Dania Murphy a daughter-in-law.
