Owen Burnside

September 23, 1964 — June 4, 2019

Owen Shain Burnside passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 04, 2019. He was born September 23rd, 1964 to Dorothy Lorene Meads and Ronald James Burnside in Salt Lake City, Utah. He joined his two older brothers, Daniel James and Ronald Keith. Shain attended Granite High School where he loved playing football. He married Stacey Jackson in 1983, they were later divorced. He married Marci Hull on November 3, 1989, they were later divorced but remained close friends. Shain and Marci moved to San Diego where he was a wood floor installer. He was a very talented woodworker, his most recognized work was for his installation of the Harley Davidson Eagle emblem in their San Diego shop.

Shain was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in San Diego as Ward Athletic Director, then as Stake Athletic Director which were his two favorite callings. He loved playing basketball and softball. Shain followed his family back to Utah in 2005. His girlfriend, Bambi preceded him in death in 2016. Shain had many health challenges including removal of one kidney due to cancer and the amputation of half of both of his feet. He didn’t let them keep him down and still managed to play basketball with his boys and one season of Tremonton City League Softball.

His biggest joys were his children: Sean, Shanelle, Max, Marc and Shad. He especially loved seeing his grandchildren, Angel, Camron, Brooklyn, Payzlee, Declan, Charles, Atlyss and Auria. We are grateful he was able to attend Shad’s graduation on May 30th and celebrate with all of his kids attending.

Shain is survived by his children, Sean Austin Burnside (Angel, Camron, Payzlee), Shanelle Deon Simmonds(Corbin) (Brooklyn Declan), Max Owen Burnside (Jamie) (Atlyss), Marc Hull Burnside (Elizabeth)(Charles, Aria), Shad Shain Burnside and his brother Ronald Keith Burnside along with Ashley Burnside.

Shain never met a stranger. He was the kind of person that would give you the shirt off of his back even when he didn’t have much himself. He is now finally free of the addictions that plagued him here on the earth. Fly high and free until we see you again.
