Patricia Kay Hunsaker peacefully passed away on Saturday morning March 14th, 2026. She was deeply loved for her humor and great advice. Pat was practical, trustworthy, and genuine.
On April 18th, 1943, Patricia was the second child born to Walter and Maren Walters in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She spent most of her time running around with her older brother Terry and his friends as a self proclaimed “tomboy”. During a time when girls weren’t allowed to play many sports, Pat found a way to show she was able and would be triumphant. She competed and won awards in speed skating, softball, and archery. Pat, Terry, and her little sister, Wendy all worked in the corn fields detasseling corn and learning the value of hard work.
By the young age of 20, Pat had married, given birth to a little boy, Brad, and lost her husband to meningitis. A year after his passing, Pat married again and within a few years joined The Church of Latter-day Saints. She and her husband adopted two little babies, Brady and Lisa whom she loved.
Pat began feeling pressed to get a higher education. She enrolled in BYU, now as a single mom, and earned her bachelor’s degree in Family Counseling. She didn’t stop there, she went on to receive her masters degree in Family and Marriage Therapy. When she graduated she taught at BYU, Minneapolis Community College, and other intern programs in Minnesota. She was working as a Family and Marriage Therapist when her eldest son, Brad lost his life in a car accident. The tragedies had been many in her young adult life, but Pat continued to press on.
She later met David Hunsaker, whom she fell in love with and was married to. They would live the next 31 years together building two ranches in Arizona and raising over 6 horses, 3 dogs, and 2 cats. She loved to have her 6 stepchildren and grandchildren to the ranch where she would ride them around wildly in her golf cart, teach them to bake bread, help them build a campsite on their ranch, and let them ride and care for their horses. Although the true highlight of their trips were always her endless supply of bagels and her homemade cream cheese.
Pat you will be deeply missed as you are so loved.
