Paul C. Hess was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend during his memorable 73 years of life. He completed his earthly sojourn July 31, 2025, after fighting a valiant battle with heart disease and cancer. He will be dearly missed by his wife Linda, his three sons: Gregory, Jonathan (Heather) and Derek (Shauna), and eight adored grandchildren: Olivia, Katelyn, Jackson, Gavin, Scarlett, Vivian, Dylan and Weston. Also mourning his passing are his sisters Linda (Del) Anderson and Delerie (David) Moore; in-laws Paul and Joyce Stine, Sandra and Denny Roberts, Janet Hess, as well as his nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Don and Mozell Hess and brother Don Glade Hess.

Paul regaled about his wonderful childhood in Garland, Utah and his many adventures with his great group of friends that he affectionately called “ the Factory Street Gang.” His parents taught him the value of hard work and having great faith and strong family values.

Paul’s engaging personality and sense of humor won many friends throughout his life including at Bear River High School where he was active in student government as Student body VP and in athletics, where he lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track. Music was an important part of his life. He excelled at playing the drums. He literally drummed his way through high school and college, playing in jazz bands, rock bands and dance bands. He graduated from Utah State University after attending on a music scholarship but majoring in marketing and finance with a minor in Mandarin.

Throughout life he loved sports, whether it was playing, coaching or watching on television. Paul developed a strong work ethic in his youth along with characteristics of honesty, integrity and dependability which served him well in his career in banking and finance. He was conscientious in developing skills, gaining knowledge, and giving all the time and effort necessary to excel in his field . He greatly enjoyed the relationships and friendships he developed over the years with those he associated with through work.

Paul had a lifelong testimony of Jesus Christ. He was an avid reader and student of gospel literature with an acute memory for quotes, stories and scripture. He served as a missionary in Taiwan for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many capacities in the church throughout his life, utilizing his gifts of speaking and teaching to the benefit of many. He cherished the friendships and connections he made through working in the Young Men’s program, coaching, serving in a University bishopric, being on the high council, and serving in the Bountiful temple. His favorite callings in life were those of husband, father and grandfather (Poppy) which he fulfilled with great love. He said the best thing he ever did was to marry the right girl in the right place. Paul and Linda were married in the Logan Temple and enjoyed 52 wonderful years together.

Paul liked to connect with people over good food, whether it meant going out for breakfast, lunch or dinner. He would often describe travels by the particular food or restaurants he enjoyed during the journey. He loved going to see live bands perform and attended concerts too numerous to count, with groups anywhere from Simon and Garfunkel to Paul McCartney. Some of his fondest memories were of going fishing with his dad and his sons. He enjoyed coaching numerous ball teams (football, basketball and baseball) for his sons during their youth and also enjoyed the shared memories of many scout camp adventures with them. He was his sons’ biggest supporter, mentor and advocate. His grandchildren were the delight of his life and he loved having them visit and going to see their activities. Paul could always be counted on through thick or thin. He shared his large heart with all. He leaves a great legacy of love, friendship and service and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of sharing unforgettable experiences and memories in his incredible life.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all who have offered their love, support and compassion and to the caregivers who used their skills and services to make his life better as he faced many health challenges.
