Starts at 11:00 am (Mountain time)
Born July 25, 1961 Died May 30, 2026
Memorial service to be held Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the Fishburn Chapel in Brigham City, Utah (105 Fishburn Dr- Brigham City) . The service will be livestreamed and can be accessed below.
Robert started out life at Hill Air Force Base and lived with his family in Utah, Japan, and California before his dad retired from the Air Force to go back home to the farm in Trenton, Utah. Bob loved everything about Cache Valley and being a farm kid. He cut grain, milked cows, and repaired equipment. By the time he was 15, he saved up enough to buy a `68 and a `69 Camaro. After Skyview (1979) High School, he went to Utah Technical College and then on to a BS Degree from BYU in Electric Engineering Technology.
He married Cindy Ritchie in March of 1990 in the Logan temple, and they went on to have four children; Kelsey Marie, Annica Lu, Tyler James, and Terren Levi.
The family lived in Brigham City, Utah, for all but three years. Bob worked at Proform, Autoliv, Thiokol, Lockheed Martin, ATK, and then for the last 20 years for DCMA/NASA. Bob loved his job and co-workers. Every day was a good one as he worked on primarily the shuttle program and missiles. He won many awards and even went twice to Florida to watch shuttles launch. He judged the science fair for years and helped give out awards and scholarships for NASA.
In his home time he was a fantastic husband and father. He helped with projects, kept many vehicles going and spent much time with his family. His greatest traits were his positive attitude and desire to help. As part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as a stake missionary, in the elder's quorum, primary, and for over 30 years worked in the scouting program helping the youth. He was part of every move, service project, scout project, and camp that he could be for decades. No matter what the situation, Bob made it better with his attitude and calm help.
He battled with dementia for the last six years and died peacefully at home. He is survived by: his wife Cindy, daughters Kelsey Marie and Annica Lu, sons Tyler James and Terren Levi, his father Cecil Navil Payne, brother Larry (Pete) Payne (wife Terri), and sister Debbie Lorenze.
