Obituary

Roland LaMar Wright, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and devoted disciple of Jesus Christ, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, at the age of 78. He was born on September 12, 1947, to Roland and Ruth Wright. Throughout his life, LaMar was known for his formidable faith and remarkable ability to befriend all he encountered. He carried with him a steady hope for goodness and, wherever possible, set about creating it himself.

LaMar married the love of his life and best friend, MarJean Beus, on October 2, 1969, in the Salt Lake Temple. Their marriage carried a rhythm of two people who had, over many years, exercised great trust and enduring friendship. More than anything, LaMar cherished the family they created and held together through faith and hard work. He is survived by his wife, MarJean; their five sons, Cody, Ryan, James, Brandon, and Cameron; 23 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense happiness.

LaMar faithfully served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the British South Mission from 1966 to 1968, an experience that animated his faith and that first taught him to walk with God, a friendship that sustained him the rest of his life. He later earned an associate degree from Weber State College and went on to become the owner of Wright Signs, where he worked diligently and took satisfaction in providing for his family through honest, dedicated labor.

Faith and service formed the quiet architecture of his life, much of which was given to the church as he served in many callings, including Sunday School President, Elders Quorum President, High Councilor, and Bishop. He had a profound love of Jesus Christ and lived out the expression of his beliefs through kindness, humility, and a forgiving heart. He had a genius for fellowship: no person was beneath his notice or beyond his welcome; he poured out his mind with unguarded generosity; and, more remarkable still, he left others feeling valued and somehow long remembered after the conversation had ended.

LaMar had a great appetite for life and the natural wonders of the great outdoors. He loved the rivers and mountains, the early mornings, the labor of living, people and their stories, and had great joy in the ordinary and simple. He was a born adventurer who couldn’t rest satisfied indoors – he loved hunting, fly fishing, camping, traveling to Alaska, and spending time outdoors with those he loved most.

In his later years, LaMar endured many physical hardships with grace. He chose to meet what arose without resistance, to feel fully, and to trust that he and God together could bring goodness even from what could not yet be understood. Taking everything that happened, therefore, in stride, he recognized that pain is part and parcel of our extraordinary, ordinary lives. He remained uncommonly optimistic and deeply attentive to the people he loved and to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and we may trace his love and influence now and for many generations to come.
