Obituary

Sherman Norval Kitchen entered Earth June 10, 1935, the first child of Norval Thomas Kitchen and Fay Rowley of Orem. September 9, 1955, he married Margaret Robinson of Kanarraville in the St. George Temple.

Sherman met Margaret in a cherry orchard and that union blossomed into a fruitful relationship. With some divine help, their new venture gradually produced seven children, weathered the storms of life, and carried Sherman through 11 extended years without her.

Despite his outdoor playful passions, he endured Lincoln Elementary and High Schools, Snow College and Brigham Young University. He exemplified hard work laboring at Geneva Steel, as a Utah National Guard mess steward, engineering for three decades at Thiokol Corporation, drafting home architectural plans, and cleaning businesses. His imaginative mind designed rocket making machines, wooden toys, little league football plays, hunting and river expeditions, and plastic canvas crafts.

While he shook the hands of astronauts for NASA recognition, shook opponents on the college football field, and shook the hands of prophets, he first served his wife, family, youth, and the needy. He cherished church missionary service with special needs seminary students and shepherding the Tremonton First Ward as bishop among several other church assignments.

Sherman is survived by his sisters, LaRae (John) Moosman of Whiterocks, and Norma (Jim) Brookes of Orem; sisters-in-law, Christine Kitchen of Garland, and Karen and Caline Kitchen of Orem; children Kris Anderson of Murrieta, CA, Kevin and Karoline Kitchen of Richfield, Jodi and David Gowans of Vernon, Janice and Ryan Dawson of Willard, Kaylyn and Jeff Pearson of Tooele, and Jeff and Amy Kitchen of Providence and 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his spouse Margaret Robinson, infant son Jason Daryl Kitchen, and parents Norval T. Kitchen and Fay Rowley. Siblings Darrell, Marvin, Carolyn, Steven, Rosalie, Janice and grandchildren Jace Harris and Kandice Kitchen.

Enjoy the bounteous harvest Dad to infinity and beyond. We love you.
