Waltraud “Traudy” Marianne Spiegel Johnson passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 17, 2023 at the age of 88. Waltraud was born on June 5, 1934 to Paul and Erna Spiegel in Mannhausen Germany. She lived in various places while being raised as the oldest with two younger brothers in Germany. She received extra education during her teenage years in clerical and bookkeeping.
She met the love of her life Oleen “Oly” Johnson while he was stationed in Germany with the Airforce. They married March 3, 1959. While building a life of love and friendship they traveled the world together. They settled in Utah when Oly retired from the Airforce in ’79 to raise their only child. Waltraud experienced her greatest loss when Oly passed away in ’97.
Traudy was an excellent bookkeeper and seamstress holding various positions in many states. She loved music, dancing, cooking, canning, quilting, sewing and tole painting. She was the greatest storyteller. She had the art of telling a story and capturing her audience with her fascinating stories of growing up through WWII as well as the adventures with her sweetheart.
Traudy’s greatest passion was her family.
Traudy is survived by her daughter Tanja (Lane) Grover, grandsons Matt (Haley) Harris, Tanner (Sarah) Grover, two great grandchildren Kole and Sloan Grover and brother Bernd Spiegel.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 1 P.M. with a viewing held prior from 11:30 A.M.-12:30 P.M. All services will be held at the Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home (111 N 100 E- Tremonton). Interment in the Valley View Bothwell Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed and may be accessed below.
