Oral Allen (Herb) Steed

November 15, 1945 — April 30, 2022

Oral Allen (Herb) Steed, 76, of Plymouth, Ut., passed peacefully, Saturday, April 30th, 2022, after a long battle with Parkinsons.  Though Oral was his legal name the world, his friends and his family all knew him as Herb. He is the son of George Harold (Cack) Steed and Melba Ruth Roche Steed.
Herb was always the life of the conversation or gathering.  He never met a stranger, only an opportunity to make a new friend.  He was kind, selfless, and incredibly giving.  He would pick up a hitchhiker, buy them lunch and hand them money before dropping them off.  Herb was always helping friends.  Once, when asked why he did that, especially when his Parkinson's had so limited his abilities, his reply so fit the way he lived his life.  His response was, "they have not been blessed with good health, like I have".  He never wasted time feeling sorry for himself.
Herb wore many hats in his life.  He served in the Navy.  He was a PRCA Bullfighter/Rodeo clown, for many years.  He worked at the Garland Sugar Factory, Defense Depot Ogden, Nucor Steel and shoed horses when he wasn't at his day job. He was an incredible father, daddy, grandpa and great grandpa.   His family and friends were blessed to have known him.
Herb married Lyla Hall Steed on February 4th, 1967.  They were blessed with 3 daughters, Stacy (Dave) Seamons, Loral (Trent) Thompson and Shannon (Kevin) Butler.  Herb and Lyla divorced in 1996.   Oral and Jeri Steed married in 1996.  Jeri brought 3 children with her, Sheldon Gardner, Trevor (Jenna) Gardner and Chelsie (Cory) Poulsen.
Herb is preceded in death by his parents, George Harold (Cack) and Melba Ruth Roche Steed, his sister Tammy Steed, son-in-law David LaVon Seamons, and Jim Woodward a brother-in-law.
He is survived by his wife, Jeri Steed. His 3 daughters Stacy Seamons, Loral (Trent) Thompson, Shannon (Kevin) Butler, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren. His 3 step children Sheldon Gardner, Trevor (Jenna) Gardner and Chelsie (Cory) Poulsen and 4 step grandchildren.  Siblings- Cleve (Sue) Steed, Dean (Jan) Steed, Linda Nelson and Melba Woodward.
Herb did not want any formal services.  He loved being the center of attention because of a story or a joke he told but he would never want to be felt sorry for or worried about.  We will be doing a Celebration of Herb's life on Saturday the 14th of May, from 4-6 pm.  We will be doing this at the corrals in Water Canyon ( included is a map and GPS pin), on the family mountain.  This is where he liked to spend his time and had many great memories.  We would love family and friends to join us.  Please come with stories to share.  He would want lots of laughs and no tears. Following a family prayer we would like to invite anyone that wants to join in Herb's last ride.  Saddle up and make the ride up the mountain to help us give Herb his final request.
We are asking that in lieu of flowers you honor Herb the way he lived.  Donate to a good cause, help a neighbor or stranger, do a kind deed, say a kind word, just pay it forward.  Hug your friends and family.   Leave a positive mark on this world, because you matter more than you think.  You touch and inspire people everyday and don't even realize it.
