Zenna White

December 29, 1928 — December 29, 2018

Zenna Ranae Archibald White died peacefully, surrounded by her entire family, after they gathered from near and far to celebrate her 90th birthday. Gratefully, the whole family was able to tell her farewell with many tender hugs and kisses.

Born on December 29, 1928, Zenna was the fourth of five children in the Allen Owen Archibald and Hattie Bethea Buttars family. She was raised in Fielding and Garland, where she created many friendships and loved learning in school. She graduated from Bear River High School in 1947.

Zenna married James J. White in the Logan Temple on May 20, 1949, and they settled in Garland, where they raised a family of four children. For many years, Zenna also kept the books for her husband’s blacksmith business.

While raising a family and supporting her husband in his business, church and community activities, Zenna was quite active herself. She assisted in making improvements at the Garland Park; she was a 4-H leader to many children; worked in the 4-H department at the Box Elder County Fair in organizing exhibits and judging; and she was also an election judge for many years.

As an active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Zenna rendered many years of service in various leadership positions in the Relief Society, Young Women (MIA), and Primary organizations, as well as giving many faithful years as a temple worker. Zenna and Jim served missions to New Hampshire and the Nauvoo Temple. While assisting her husband in his stake patriarch duties over many years, Zenna transcribed hundreds of patriarchal blessings.

Zenna often relaxed by quilting, cooking delicious dishes, participating in and watching sports, and traveling with her family. She was also an avid family historian.

The hallmarks of Zenna’s life will be her friendly smile, her selfless service, and the love of family. She would often say things like, “Love your children and be understanding. That’s not the first glass of milk to be spilled and it won’t be the last.”

Zenna is survived by her four children, Linda (Alan) James, Jeanine (Mark) Richards, Yvette (Dale) Sampson, and Jim (Tamara) White; 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, a brother, Max Archibald, and a sister, Gaye Miller.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James J. White, one brother, Vernal, and one sister, Lois.
